The Old Manse is believed to have been constructed in late 1800's. The property is situated only a five-minute drive from the Symbister ferry terminal and in close proximity to Symbister’s local amenities including the Junior High School, village hall, local shop, boating club and doctor’s surgery. Skaw is home to the most northerly 18-hole golf course in the UK. Other sporting facilities on the Isle are the leisure centre, a snooker club and the Harbison Park artificial playing field. Dinghy sailing is a popular pastime in Whalsay and the pleasure boat marina is home to a vast fleet of small pleasure craft. Whalsay has an amateur football club as well as hockey and netball teams, all of which compete throughout Shetland. The ferry journey to the Mainland only takes half an hour from which Lerwick, Sullom Voe etc are readily accessible. The subsidised ferry service has frequent daily sailings to and from the Mainland and operates with two ro-ro ferries including a modern high-capacity ferry. Affectionately known as ‘The Bonnie Isle’, this is traditionally a fishing/crofting community, although many living there now commute daily to and from the Mainland for work.

The Accommodation comprises:-

Ground Floor

Lean-To Extension

This is situated at the rear of the property although it is in a poor state of repair and upgrading or demolition would be desirable.

Kitchen (1.95 m x 3.85 m approx.)

The kitchen is basic and a new kitchen would be desirable. There is, however, wiring and plumbing already in place.

Dining Room (3.23 m x 4.41 m approx.)

There is a run of base units with fitted worktop to one side. Two storage cupboards off. Night storage heater.

Hall

The spacious hallway leads to all of the ground- floor accommodation and to the wooden staircase.

Livingroom (4.86 m x 4.48 m approx.)

Excellent sea views are enjoyed from the livingroom to the west over West Linga. Night storage heater.

Shower Room (2.51 m x 2.26 m approx.)

The shower room has a tiled floor, wc, wash-hand basin and large shower cubicle with ‘Mira’ electric shower. It is partly wet-walled. There is a fitted medicine cabinet. Once again, it should be noted that the shower room is basic and is in need of upgrading.

Sitting Room (4.32 m x 3.75 m approx.)

With night storage heater.

First Floor

The first floor accommodation is accessed from what is believed to be the original wooden staircase. This leads to a half-landing where there is a small toilet with wash hand basin. It then leads to the upper hall, with all of the the first-floor accommodation off.

Bedroom 1 (4.45 m x 4.03 m approx.)

With panel heater and small part-shelved cupboard off. Sea views over West Linga.

Bedroom 2 (4.52 m x 3.27 m approx.)

With panel heater.

Bedroom 3 (2.79 m x 3.38 m approx.)

With panel heater.

Bedroom 4 (4.82 m x 4.23 m approx.)

This is the largest of the four bedrooms. It has a night storage heater and large free-standing wardrobe unit.

Exterior

The outbuildings are in a very poor state of repair and the site would benefit greatly from a good tidy up. This is, however, a good-sized site which again has a lot of potential.

Extras

The property is sold as seen and includes all floorcoverings, lamp shades, light fittings as well as the curtains and blinds.

General

Council Tax Band A. Early entry is available.

Directions

Drive through Symbister until you come to the sign post for ‘Marrister’. Take a left turn into Marrister and the Old Manse is situated a short drive away on your right-hand side.
